Create a Fund

A Donor-Advised Fund is the term used when you (either personally, or via a fundraising event), your family, or an estate makes a donation with the intent of allowing the DCCF to be your philanthropic “back office support”. This allows the “donor advisor” (who is normally the person who establishes the fund) to make recommendations to the DCCF as to which charities the DCCF should make grants using these particular funds.  Grants from Donor-Advised funds (unlike DCCF Field of Interest Funds) can be made to organizations all over the United States.  A Donor-Advised Fund can be started with as little as $3,000 and grants to charities can be made in various amounts, provided all requests are to fund official 501 (c) (3) charities.

DCCF will research the board and financials, as well as the reputation and background of each charity that you chose to give to, just to assure that your philanthropic investment will be maximized and truly make a difference!  You will receive quarterly statements showing your fund’s growth and grants you have made.  Additionally, there is no need for you to go through the time and expenses associated with the legal and tax-related reporting that comes with running a fund!  DCCF will handle all tax receipts to those giving to your fund, as well as the annual tax reporting requirements, so there is no need for you to file a tax return for your fund the way that you would if you had your own charity!

Your Donor-Advised Fund can be established quickly and easily. Once you’ve answered a few simple questions, please contact our offices so that we can review your options and answer any questions that you may have.

Questions to ask yourself/advisor:

  • Will your fund type be short-term (Non-Endowed) or long term (Endowed)?
  • What assets will you donate to establish the fund?  (For example, cash or appreciated securities)
  • What will be the purpose of your fund?  What cause(s) are you trying to support?
  • Will your fund be a scholarship fund?  If so, read Establishing a Scholarship Fund
  • What will be the name of the fund?
  • Who will serve as advisor?  Who will serve as the successor advisor?
